Bible reading: 1 Samuel 1 vs 1-28

In the Bible, Hannah was the wife of Elkanah, who had two wives. The adversary of Hannah, Peninnah had children, while Hannah was barren.
Although Hannah came from a Godly family, she had to wait for her time to manifest.
The family of Elkanah went to Shiloh every year to worship and make sacrifices to God. Each year they went, Hannah came back home the same, her situation unchanged, until one faithful day.

The name Hannah means gracious, so although she was carrying grace, she was still waiting for the manifestation of her time. One day, when they went to Shiloh, Hannah refused to go back home empty. She was provoked by her adversary (1 Samuel 1 vs 6-7). The mocking provoked her to weep to the extend that she even refused to eat. After eating time, Hannah left to the Temple of the Lord. She did not allow the sweet words of her husband sway her. She went straight to the Lord to pour her heart out.

Who do we go to in times of trouble? Who do we cry to? To man or to God? Some of us will first turn to man. We will carry our problem around, while God says in Mathew 11 vs 28: Come to me all ye who are weary and heavy laden and I shall give you rest. Man can never give rest or solace!

Being specific in our prayers

Hannah cried her heart out to the Lord. She cried bitterly in her heart, but silently on the outside. She was very specific about what she wanted, she prayed for a son (1 Sam. 1 vs 4-5). In her tears she made a vow to God. Vowing to God is provoking Him to look into your situation faster than usual. Hannah vowed that if God gave her a son, she will give the child back to God (vs 11).

Most of the time, we ask God things without being specific and expect God to know. Although He knows, He wants us to be specific to Him. A father can only give something to the son/daughter if the child is specific in his/her demands. If we want to move God to answer us fast, we have to promise Him something in return. When making a promise to God, promise the possible and not the impossible, promise from your heart and not from your lips. Because whatever we vow/promise, we must fulfil it so that our blessings will be complete. Hannah vowed a vow that might be difficult for some of us to do, yet she fulfilled it and her blessings were completed.

A prayer in agreement with a man of God

Eli, a priest of God, not knowing Hannah’s prayer point, agreed with her because of her grief and she added faith in the agreement (1 Sam.1 vs 17-18). Believing that her prayer has been answered, her countenance changed. She started rejoicing even before her prayer was actualised, because the man of God agreed with her. And in due time the Lord remembered Hannah and she got what she asked from the Lord.

As the Almighty remembered Hannah, so will He remember you today in Jesus name – Amen.

Christian life consists of faith and charity.
“we walk in faith not by sight” – Cor. 5:7

Unless we form the habit of going to the Bible in bright moments as well as in trouble, we cannot fully respond to its consolations because we lack equilibrium between light and darkness

God is our refuge and strength, every present help in trouble – Psalm 46:1

An unemployed graduate woke up one morning and checked his pocket. All he had left was $10. He decided to use it to buy food and then wait for death as he was too proud to go begging. He was frustrated as he could find no job, and nobody was ready to help him.

He bought food and as he sat down to eat, an old man and two little children came along and asked him to help them with food as they had not eaten for almost a week. He looked at them. They were so lean that he could see their bones coming out. Their eyes had gone into the socket. With the last bit of compassion he had, he gave them the food. The old man and children prayed that God would bless and prosper him and then gave him a very old coin. The young graduate said to them ‘you need the prayer more than I do’.

With no money, no job, no food, the young graduate went under the bridge to rest and wait for death. As he was about to sleep, he saw an old newspaper on the ground. He picked it up, and suddenly he saw an advertisement for people with old coins to come to a certain address. He decided to go there with the old coin the old man gave him. On getting to the place, he gave the proprietor the coin.

The proprietor screamed, brought out a big book and showed the young graduate a photograph. This same old coin was worth 3 million dollars. The young graduate was overjoyed as the proprietor gave him a bank draft for 3 million dollars within an hour. He collected the Bank Draft and went in search of the old man and little children.

By the time he got to where he left them eating, they had gone. He asked the owner of the canteen if he knew them. He said no but they left a note for you. He quickly opened the note thinking it would lead him to find them.

This is what the note said: ‘You gave us your all and we have rewarded you back with the coin,’ signed God the Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost. 1 Kings 17:10-16; Matthew 11:28-30

“El-Shaddai means God Almighty. El points to the power of God Himself. Shaddai seems to be derived from another word meaning breast, which implies that Shaddai signifies one who nourishes, supplies, and satisfies. It is God as El who helps, but it is God as Shaddai who abundantly blesses with all manner of blessings.”

Meaning:

God desires to bless man and provide in abundance all of mans needs. This name is indicative of a God who is powerful enough to do just that. Only an all powerful God can bless all mankind with all manner of blessings.

Genesis 49:24,25
But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:) Even by the God of thy father, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb.

Numbers 24:4,16

Isaiah 60:15,16
Whereas thou hast been forsaken and hated, so that no man went through thee, I will make thee an eternal excellency, a joy of many generations. Rejoice ye with Jerusalem and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her: That ye may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory. For thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: them shall ye suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides and be dandled upon her knees. As one whom his mother comforteth, so will comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

The power of God is the gift God gives a believer, but the presence of God is the continuous walk of God amidst His people. Satan can manifest the power to do miracles, but cannot stand the presence of God. It is possible to enjoy the power and deny the presence of God. See the story of the Israelites through the wilderness. The power of God can be forgotten so fast, but His presence cannot be forgotten. When the presence of God touches you, your life will change by force. You will radiate the glory of God.

In His presence, the struggles of life are exchanged for His grace to function. It is only when you are in the presence of God that you can touch His heart. Most people are not in the presence of God , they are only experiencing the power of God.

In the presence of God is the genuine, raw power of God. You labour less when you are in his presence, but if you are in His power of God, you will labour for hours for you to get results. In His presence, just two minutes of prayer will command the uncommon acts of God to respond to you. Your labours are turned into favours.

BENEFITS OF HIS PRESENCE:
(Exodus 33: 14-15)

DIRECTION: We cannot get to our destination in life except the presence of God goes with us. The presence of God is a personal thing. That is what differentiates you from the other Christian.

REST: His presence gives rest. (Exo. 33:14). That is the peace and calmness that comes when we dwell in the secret place of His presence. At the center of His presence is the power of God made manifest.

LIGHT: As the light enters every form of darkness disappears. When you want to deal with the darkness in your life, invite the light of His presence.

PROTECTION: His presence is a “guide” and a “guard”. According to Exodus 13: 21-22, the Lord was with them in the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night.

The Pillar of Cloud: This signifies the protective covering of God from the scotching heat of the desert sun. God in the pillar of cloud ensured that His people were safe all day long.

The Pillar of Fire: The pillar of fire symbolizes the warmth that the Lord gives when we dwell in His presence. Scorpions and snakes cannot survive the presence of God. In Psalms 91, the scripture speaks expressly that “…He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty….”

BOLDNESS: It is only in the presence of God that you can boldly boast in the Lord. If you are not in the presence of God, don’t dare challenge witches because they will disgrace you.

God allows us to pass through trials in life so that through those trials (fire) you will encounter His presence and protection. For He says in Isaiah 43:2…”when you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you: when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle on you.” It is the presence of God that calms the troubles and struggles of life.
In 1 Samuel 5:1-5, the Philistines moved the Ark of God from Ebenezer (Stone of help) to Ashod and right there in the sanctuary of Dagon (god of the Philistines), the presence of God caused Dagon to fall flat on its face and later on, its head and hands were cut off. Spiritually, the head signifies the “authority” and the hand is the “ability to work”. That means that in His presence, all the authorities of the enemy and his ability to influence our lives are cut off totally.
Finally, it is only in His presence that we can decree a thing and it shall be established. Sin and filthiness cannot survive His presence. His presence is all that you need to gain solutions to your problems. In it, people are released from captivity and bondage. Unveil His presence today and let it consume you totally and you will live the life of victory God had prepared for you.

PRAYER:
“Dear Lord, every head and hand that is working against my destiny, may they be cut off this day by the entrance of the Light of your Presence in Jesus Name, Amen”
